work bench

Ive  finally gotten my bench finished for working on my projects inside or out.  Gets it up off the ground.  Work good for staining and re finishing keeping everything off ground.  Now all ive got to do is find a place to do my work not in my house...

day 2 coffee table with glass drawers

Second day work.  Since all refab is done in the apt we have to become creative on when and where we can do certain things.  This today being gluing some of the joints just as a precautionary measure.  We put all the joints back together with the supplied screws and anchors.  But just to be safe I added a little bit of the Elmers wood glue on the pegs.  Pressing it in the hallway so that hopefully its out of the way before the Mrs . returns.   We spent a lot of time last night working (sanding) down most of the components.   The only part I have concerns over is the top piece and its ability to be made 100 percent flat and level.
After 45 minutes or so I will set it back up and document where we stand as of Monday at 2pm...
Its a lot more effort doing all this work in our 1 bedroom aptm. If it were 2 I could at least commendere one of the rooms for my work and painting.  Until then though...

tv stand day 1 breakdown

tv stand (new project Oct 24th)

Just got this in today.  Obviously needs  some work in regards to some stains and abrasions.  Same with the back, we will replace that with something natural.  I have just the piece set aside.
I think ill take off the front doors, do some work on the glass.  Also the back.  Sand it down lightly, maybe not even have to totally refinish the entire piece.  Heres what we are starting with...

the arts building

Another one of the buildings we saw downtown the other day.  Again, also, artists lofts in the spaces available.

sewing cabinet finished

Started on this a week ago.  Finished up I left all the original parts and now we are using it as a writing desk in the front room.

stages of a rehab on one cabinet

We did this project a few weeks ago and all ready posted the end result but I wanted to post some of the beginning and processes
we went through to get to the final piece.

theater tour

Yesterday we went for a small tour downtown and this is one of the things we were able to see.  This old theater is no longer in use, in fact with the exception of the theater itself the rest of the building is all artist lofts.  Some of the artist's have been in this building for over 20 years.  Very inspiring space to visit let alone do your work in.

new chair

I used to have a long time ago, a corner chair.   Always wanted to find something similar,  we just got this last night.   Its from Room and Board.   Its a swivel chair and is a custom "oatmeal" color.  Replacing my white chair in the living room space.   The piece is exactly what I have been looking for to break up the color pattern.

new project. sewing cabinet

Total disassemble.   Sand down to base and go from there.  We had considered leaving it as is and just clear coating it but there were just to many stains.  Question now is to remove all the internals of machinery and form into some sort of storage cabinet...  or maybe something more thoughtful...

liquor stand, final

Finished the liquor cabinet today (or what is to be my liquor cab).  It came out very nice, couldn't be happier.  We did go a lot lighter on stain color, but I think as with this; a lot of the pieces that come in, we will try and stick to original wood color(stain).  Its more work obviously because even the smallest imperfections are noticed with out the help of darker stains to cover them up...

fabric curtains and hardware

Cleaned the curtains tonight.  Used cool water and wool light as they are so delicate.  40 years of accumulated waste we were able to at least remove most and will let them air dry overnight.  Then check them over more closely for details in the hemming and their over all conditions before they can be reinstalled on their rods.
All the brass and silver hardware.   Hinges, knobs etc.  All has to be polished. ..

door to my wall...

A visitor we had gave me the inspiration  to follow through with this door project of mine.  Originally I had gotten this door just to have in storage for future projects.   After cleaning up we decided it would be a good idea to have a  door that opens to a brick wall.  (Fairy tale, ALICE IN WONDERLAND?)  Why not right?  I have gotten all the hard ware together and polished up all the knobs and keys.   Only thing I have to finish are the hinges to mount the door to the wall.  We have then, they just need polished and installed.
